Over 2,900 government schools have been merged and amalgamated with nearby schools in Assam over the last five years. The information was provided in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha. The schools were merged in cases of low enrollment, schools located on the same campus, or to consolidate resources into a single administrative and academic unit.
