A court in Kalyani, West Bengal, convicted nine men for orchestrating a "digital arrest" scam due to which a retired professor was cheated of ₹1.1 crore. Senior officials said this is the first such conviction in India. The court noted that such crimes were nothing short of "economic terrorism". The arrested individuals belonged to Maharashtra, Haryana and Gujarat.
