A new study, published in Icarus, suggests that Earth may have at least 6 to 6.5 'minimoons' at any given time. According to the research, fragments of the moon enter Earth's orbit for a brief period before escaping the blue planet's gravity and going back to orbit the Sun. It's not a permanent moon, but a temporary natural satellite.
