Road Transport and Highways Secretary V Umashankar said the ministry will soon penalise contractors if more than one accident happens on a national highway's particular stretch. The contractor will be fined ₹25 lakh, which will increase to ₹50 lakh in the following year, Umashankar said. Government will also soon launch a cashless treatment scheme for road accident victims, he added.
