Padma Shri awardee and environmentalist 'Saalumarada' Thimmakka passed away in Bengaluru on Friday. The 114-year-old was ailing for quite some time. Thimmakka earned the name 'Saalumarada' (row of trees) after she planted 385 banyan trees along a 4.5 km stretch in Ramanagara district. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah condoled her death and said her funeral will be conducted with full state honours.
