Researchers have developed a process to convert food waste into sustainable aviation fuel without blending it with fossil fuels. Using hydrothermal liquefaction, they turned waste into biocrude oil and used cobalt molybdenum catalyst to refine oil into pure hydrocarbons that meet jet fuel specifications. The breakthrough could reduce both food waste and aviation-related greenhouse gas emissions.
