A team of scientists has detected subtle magnetic signals in common non-magnetic metals like gold, copper, and aluminium. The researchers used the magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) method, which uses a laser to measure how magnetism alters light’s reflection to detect signals. "It was like trying to hear a whisper in a noisy room for decades," one of the researchers stated.
