A Chinese-led team of scientists has found a naturally occurring mineral containing rare earth elements in a fern for the first time in the world. The team discovered nanoscale monazite, a rare-earth phosphate mineral, in the living plant, opening new possibilities for the direct recovery of functional rare-earth element materials. The findings were published in Environmental Science & Technology.
