A study by University of Colorado Boulder showed that erythritol, sugar substitute found in low-carb and sugar-free products, may harm brain blood vessel cells, potentially raising risk of stroke. The study conducted among 4,000 participants found that those with higher circulating levels of erythritol were significantly more likely to have a heart attack or stroke within the next three years.
