Taiwan evacuated over 8,300 people ahead of arrival of Typhoon Fung-wong, said fire department. The calamity brought record downpours in southern areas and injured 51 people. Over 1,000 homes were flooded in town of Suao which received 648 mm (25 inches) of rain, record for the month, weather officials said. All businesses and schools were shut in affected areas.
