Union Communications Ministry recently released draft rules for a mobile number verification (MNV) platform to curb cyber fraud. The platform would check in background whether a number is active, valid or suspicious for ₹1.5-₹3 every time it is used on a digital platform. The potential issues with it include lack of appeal process to number blocking and no independent oversight.
