₹2 lakh penalty on Wipro for defamation in termination letter
In a landmark judgment, the Delhi High Court ruled in favour of a Wipro employee defamed in his termination letter. The Court ordered Wipro to issue a new, clean termination letter and awarded ₹2 lakh in damages. It emphasised that baseless remarks like 'malicious conduct' harm professional credibility and constitute actionable defamation, applying the principle of compelled self-publication.
