100 satellite galaxies may be orbiting the Milky Way: Study
There should be 80 to possibly 100 more satellite galaxies orbiting close to our home galaxy, the Milky Way, according to a new study. Researchers used a new technique combining the highest-resolution supercomputer simulations that exist, alongside novel mathematical modelling. "We know the Milky Way has some 60 confirmed companion satellite galaxies," lead researcher Isabel Santos-Santos said.
