18-km-high ash cloud rises as Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano erupts
Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki, an active volcano in eastern Indonesia, erupted on Monday, spewing volcanic ash up to 18 kilometres into the sky. The eruption also triggered pyroclastic flows, which are avalanches of scorching gas clouds. There were no immediate reports of casualties. Notably, Indonesia is home to around 120 active volcanoes.
