1st photo of endangered musk deer captured in West Bengal after 70 years
Photographic evidence has confirmed presence of musk deer in West Bengal's Neora Valley National Park. While confirmed populations of musk deer exist in Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, J&K, Sikkim and Uttarakhand, their presence in West Bengal had remained ambiguous, with last recorded sighting dating back to 1955. In December 2024, a camera trap captured six images of a musk deer.
