78 mn years ago, an asteroid hit Earth & life grew in its crater
Scientists have confirmed that microbial life thrived in Finland's Lappajärvi crater after an asteroid impact 78 million years ago. Linnaeus University researchers dated emergence of microbes inside hydrothermal system formed by the strike, making it a unique post-impact ecosystem. The study shows life can adapt in extreme post-impact environments, shedding light on how life might evolve on Mars.
