98% of ₹2,000 notes returned, circulation dips to ₹7,117 cr: RBI
The Reserve Bank of India on Tuesday said 98% of ₹2,000 banknotes have returned to the banking system. The total value of the notes in circulation, which stood at ₹3.56 lakh crore on May 19, 2023, has dipped to ₹7,117 crore on September 30, 2024. The central bank announced the withdrawal of ₹2,000 banknotes from circulation in May last year.
