ABS, 2 helmets to be mandatory for every two-wheeler sold in India
From January 1, 2026, all new two-wheelers in India, regardless of engine size, must be equipped with Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS). Additionally, two BIS-certified helmets will be compulsory with every purchase. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways aims to significantly improve road safety, especially for two-wheeler riders, who account for nearly 44% of road fatalities in India.
