Africa might split in 10 mn years, form Earth's 6th ocean: Study
Africa is slowly splitting along the East African Rift, a giant crack running from the northeast to the south. New magnetic data revealed that the process is causing earthquakes and volcanic activity, tearing the crust. This rift could widen over the years, dividing Africa into two separate landmasses, eventually forming a new ocean, possibly Earth's sixth, within 5-10 million years.
