Australia’s first astronomy nanosatellite begins space research
Australia's first astronomy nanosatellite, SpIRIT, launched on a Falcon 9 in December 2023, has completed commissioning and entered its science mission. Earlier, SpIRIT tested new technology by deploying a winged thermal system for temperature control and extending a "selfie stick" for photos, proving it's ready for long-term work. Its main goal is to detect gamma-ray bursts from collapsing stars.
