Australia's heaviest insect, weighing 44 gm, found in rainforest
A new species of stick insect, believed to be Australia's heaviest, has been discovered by scientists in a rainforest. The Acrophylla alta is 40 centimetres long and weighs 44 grams. "Their body mass likely helps them survive the colder conditions," James Cook University's Angus Emmott said. Two specimens were added to the Queensland Museum collection for research.
