BJP MP links 'Jana Gana Mana' to British, Congress says 'nonsense'
Karnataka Congress leader Priyank Kharge criticised BJP's Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri for saying that national anthem 'Jana Gana Mana' was written to welcome the British. He called Kageri's claims a "WhatsApp history lesson" and "utter nonsense". Kharge said 'Jana Gana Mana' was first sung on December 27, 1911, at Indian National Congress in Calcutta, and not as a tribute to royalty.
