CAG raised shortfall in drug tests in 2024 amid cough syrup deaths
The Comptroller and Auditor General of India, in 2024, flagged that between 2016-17 and 2020-21, the drug regulator in Tamil Nadu consistently fell short of its targets. It stated inspectors conducted about 61% of scheduled drug inspections and collected roughly 49% of the samples required for quality testing. Notably, 23 children died allegedly after consuming Coldrif cough syrup.
