Containers carrying calcium carbide fall into sea after ship capsizes off Kochi
The Liberian-flagged vessel that capsized off the coast in Kochi carried 12 containers of calcium carbide and 13 containers of hazardous cargo, the Indian Coast Guard said. It said the pollution response has been activated to protect fragile coastal ecosystem of Kerala. "Aircraft equipped with advanced oil spill mapping technology are conducting aerial assessment of the affected area," it added.
