Could disenfranchise poor people: Amartya Sen on Bihar SIR
Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen said special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar could disenfranchise large number of poor people. "Many people don't have documents...many cannot vote...If, in the name of trying to improve things a little, harm is caused to many, then it's a serious mistake," Sen said. SIR aims to update and verify accuracy of electoral rolls.
