Darjeeling to revive 130-year-old steam engine ahead of Durga Puja
Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will revive one of its oldest steam locomotives—Steam Locomotive Sharp, Stewart & Co: 777-B before Durga Puja. The move is expected to add charm to iconic “toy train” rides through misty hills. The 16-ton engine, built in 1881 at Atlas Works in Glasgow, once thundered along narrow-gauge tracks of Darjeeling before retiring in 1957.
