Falcon-9 cuts across the Sun in once-in-a-lifetime photograph
Astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy captured a rare shot of a SpaceX Falcon-9 streaking across the Sun on September 6. Taken in hydrogen-alpha light, the photo reveals the Sun's turbulent chromosphere in detail. Unlike earlier white-light images, this shows the rocket's silhouette cutting through fiery shockwaves in the Sun's plasma, with light scattered and diffused by the intense rocket plume.
