Former Defence Minister Shigeru Ishiba to become Japan's new PM
Former Japanese Defence Minister Shigeru Ishiba has been chosen by the ruling Liberal Democratic Party as the country's next PM. Ishiba was pitted against Economic Security Minister Sanae Takaichi, who was running to become Japan's first female PM. Ishiba is considered a defence policy expert and had proposed an Asian version of NATO and a more equal Japan-US security alliance.
