From 'Kathputlis' to clay dolls: India's handcrafted dolls
While Barbies and Labubus dominate social media, our handcrafted Indian dolls have been celebrated for generations. Tamil Nadu's bobblehead Thanjavur dolls got a GI tag in 2008. Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, has Batto Bai rag dolls. Andhra Pradesh's Kondapalli dolls are a 400-year-old tradition, made by artisans who claim lineage from Muktharishi, a sage gifted in the arts by Lord Shiva.
