Gabon ex-first lady and her son sentenced to 20 years in prison
A Gabon court sentenced former first lady Sylvia Bongo and her son Noureddin, both tried in absentia, to 20 years in prison for embezzling public funds. The duo, accused of exploiting ex-president Ali Bongo after his 2018 stroke, denied all charges and called the trial a "legal farce". The Bongo family ruled Gabon for 55 years.
