Govt releases guidelines allowing passive euthanasia for terminally ill patients
Health Ministry has released draft guidelines for withholding life support (or passive euthanasia) in terminally ill patients. The guidelines allow withdrawal of ventilation support, dialysis, ECMO, etc when a patient is declared brain dead, is unlikely to benefit from advanced intervention and if she/he had documented informed refusal of care. Active euthanasia is illegal, the guidelines said.
