HC allows unmarried woman to abort 21-week pregnancy, says law shouldn't 'discriminate'
The Bombay High Court has allowed an unmarried 23-year-old woman to terminate her 21-week pregnancy. The court observed that a "narrow interpretation" of the law which only allows the benefits to be extended to married women would be "discriminatory" towards unmarried women. The woman said in her petition that she didn't have the financial means to support the child.
