The US government has shut down 15 times since 1981, the latest being the shutdown on October 1, 2025. There were 8 government shutdowns under former President Ronald Reagan and 1 under George HW Bush. Bill Clinton and Barack Obama's presidencies saw two and one shutdowns, respectively. There have been three shutdowns under US President Donald Trump.
