ICMR–INDIAB study links South India’s rice diet to diabetes risk
A recent Indian Council of Medical Research-India Diabetes has flagged worrying links between India's food habits and rising rates of diabetes and obesity. South India showed heavy reliance on rice and refined cereals, with gaps in protein and fat quality. Low intake of pulses, along with saturated fats from coconut and subsidised palm oil, were noted as key risk factors.
