ICMR study discovers 'genetic switch' that leads to pregnancy
A study led by ICMR has discovered a "genetic switch" that allows an embryo to implant itself on the wall of the uterus, leading to conception. The HOXA10 gene keeps uterine wall closed. When an embryo comes in contact with uterine lining, HOXA10 deactivates and TWIST2 gene activates, making the uterine cells soft and flexible for letting the embryo in.
