India advances nuclear triad with BARC reactor, for S-5 submarine
The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) is building 200 MWe nuclear reactor to strengthen India’s sea-based nuclear deterrence. Reactor is being developed for the S-5 class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine. While nuclear propulsion remains one of the most challenging aspects of naval technology, its successful integration would provide the Indian Navy with major operational advantages.
