India plans ₹6.8 lakh crore hydroelectric projects as China builds mega-dam
The Central Electricity Authority has drawn up a $77 billion (₹6.8 lakh crore) transmission plan to move more than 76 gigawatts of hydroelectric capacity from the Brahmaputra basin by 2047 to meet rising electricity demand. This comes amid concerns over China building a mega upstream dam on Brahmaputra river that could cut dry-season flows to India by up to 85%.
