India's most expensive literary award, JCB Prize for Literature, worth ₹25 lakh has been shut down. While no press release was issued, the award's Literary Director Mita Kapur confirmed the same to Indian Express but refused to elaborate on the reasons behind the decision. The prize was last given to Upamanyu Chatterjee for 'Lorenzo Searches for the Meaning of Life'.
