Indian-origin doctor fined ₹17 cr for surgery billing fraud in US
A 63-year-old Indian-origin pain medicine doctor based in US' Houston has agreed to pay over $2 million (approximately ₹17.4 crore) to settle allegations of healthcare fraud. From 2021-2023, Dr Ajay Aggarwal falsely billed Medicare for unperformed surgical procedures. Earlier, another Indian-origin doctor was found guilty for illegally prescribing strong opioids that led to deaths of two people.
