Indians consuming 2.2 times more salt than WHO limit: ICMR
Indians consume 11grams of salt daily, 2.2 times the WHO limit, raising risks of hypertension, stroke, and kidney disease, says ICMR-NIE. Hidden salt in packaged foods is a major concern. Through Project Namak, the ICMR promotes the use of low-sodium salt and dietary changes to reduce intake and improve public health in Punjab and Telangana.
