Indonesia’s Semeru volcano erupts, spews 54,000-ft ash cloud
Indonesia's Semeru volcano erupted on Wednesday, sending a 54,000-ft ash cloud into the sky, officials said. Semeru, one of Indonesia's nearly 130 active volcanoes and standing over 3,600 metres, triggered safety alerts. Authorities warned residents to stay within 500 metres from the Besuk Kobokan riverbank to avoid hot clouds and potential lava flows.
