Japan's PM Sanae Takaichi has formally requested a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to resolve the decades-old issue of Japanese nationals abducted by North Korea. This was the first such request made by a Japanese PM in over 20 years. Japan said at least 17 of its citizens were snatched by North Korean agents in 1970s and 1980s.
