Kerala declares itself extreme-poverty free, 1st Indian state to do so
Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said the state has eradicated extreme poverty, adding it's the first Indian state to do so. Kerala government launched Extreme Poverty Alleviation Project in 2021 to lift 64,006 "extremely poor" families out of poverty. The project came after a NITI Aayog study found that Kerala had India's lowest poverty rate of 0.7%, said a state minister.
