Kurdish fighters burn weapons as 40-yr conflict with Turkey ends
Thirty Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants burned their weapons in northern Iraq on Friday, marking its first steps toward ending a 40-year conflict with Turkey. Footage from the ceremony showed the fighters, half of them women, queuing to destroy their AK-47 assault rifles and other guns. In May, PKK announced that it would disband, disarm and end its separatist struggle.
