Meghalaya mulling law to mandate HIV testing before marriage
Meghalaya may introduce a law to make HIV/AIDS testing mandatory before marriage. Amid rising HIV/AIDS cases in the state, Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said, "If Goa has made testing compulsory, why shouldn’t Meghalaya have its own set of laws? These laws would benefit the larger community." Meghalaya ranks sixth in HIV/AIDS prevalence, with the northeast facing a high burden.
