Meghalaya’s Living Root Bridges nominated for UNESCO prize
Meghalaya’s iconic Living Root Bridges have been nominated for the UNESCO-Greece Melina Mercouri Prize for Cultural Landscapes. Spread across 74 Khasi and Jaintia villages, these 2,000-year-old living structures of intertwined roots are globally recognised as heritage linking nature and culture. The award carries a $30,000 endowment.
