Meghalaya’s Syiar Markasa chicken gets scientific recognition
The Syiar Markasa, an indigenous Khasi chicken from Eastern West Khasi Hills, has been scientifically documented for the first time. Surveying 885 birds, researchers highlighted its hardiness, striking plumage, and culinary value. Recognition could conserve the breed, boost rural livelihoods, and promote Meghalaya’s unique poultry heritage.
