Meghalaya study finds 5 in 1,000 children have subclinical RHD
Subclinical RHD is a form of rheumatic heart disease where heart valve abnormalities are present but there are no outward symptoms of the disease. First echocardiographic screening in Meghalaya shows 4.7 in 1,000 schoolchildren have subclinical RHD. Cases are higher among girls, rural areas, and government schools. Experts urge active echo surveillance to detect and manage RHD early.
