Mexican mayor who urged govt to tackle drug gangs assassinated
Carlos Manzo, mayor of Uruapan in Mexico’s violence-hit Michoacán state, was assassinated during a recent event. A vocal critic of drug gangs and President Claudia Sheinbaum's approach to organised crime, he had repeatedly sought more federal support to tackle the issue. Manzo had also joined security patrols on various occasions in the past wearing a bulletproof vest.
