NCLAT lifts data-sharing ban on WhatsApp, upholds ₹213 crore fine
The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal on Tuesday set aside the Competition Commission of India's order barring WhatsApp from sharing user data with Meta group companies for ad purposes. However, it upheld the ₹213 crore fine imposed on the company. In 2024, the CCI found that WhatsApp's 2021 privacy policy update violated the Competition Act.
